With the thread a couple of weeks ago about the de-carbonizing additives, I thought I’d post this info up.
I drive 205 to 210 miles, to and from work every day. And I have a fairy set routine. I stop at the same gas station and fill up every day. My 97 C5 has 136,000miles and I thought I’d run some of the goo c4c5 suggested.
Before the BG 44K and then GM 12345515 I was putting in 9.3 to 9.9 gals. After I ran 1 full tank with the 44K out, I added the GM additive and ran another tank out.
Since then I have been adding 8.4 to 8.7 gals.
You do the math, that’s better than 2MPG per fill up.

Sweet! By my calculations that adds up to 1 extra TnT you can buy every 2 days.....

A gin in the glass is worth 2 in the bottle.

Thanks for the info, planning on doing that soon, good to know it makes a noticable difference.

Thanks,

Mick

thanks,
thats good info.how about that, the milage went up and the power probably went up to.have you ever had any major mechanical problems with the power train?im sure you have replaced some things, water pump, radiator etc....im curious about tranny rear and motor a/c etc....your getting you moneys worth out of that car:cool.do you ever race it?
later,Todd.

do you ever race it?

Yep, I used to take it out to Sacramento raceway and run it through the 1/4mi quite a bit. And I have been out to Thunder hill a couple of times.

Maintenance? The only major problem I had with it was the right hind hub went out and I had to have that replaced. Fortunately it happened @ 74,000mi which was still under the warranty. The Cats lit the DCI and started rattling at about 81,000mi, 1,000mi after the warranty. They also rebuilt the parking break assembly when they were in working on the hub.
Other than that only piddley little regular maintenance things. (Changed the clutch @ about 85,000mi)
I did install a Breathless Performance cold air intake and a 160 deg thermostat. TR-55 plugs and MDS plug wires. (I have since gone to Taylor wires when the MSD’s wore out.)
Also HPP3 and Bilstein sport shocks.
It ran fairly well, 13 flat @110mph. This was with the ****y GY runflats. 2.2 60’ and all.

What can I say about it on the road course? I went through the Jim Russell Race Car driving techniques course over at Sears Point a while back. It was a 4-day course driving little Van Damien formula open wheel cars on the SP course. I learned a great deal about balancing the car and getting set up for and executing turns properly. So by the time I went out to a real road course, I was able to pass some far more powerful cars. (A few Vipers, Superas, and Porsches). I went around Mustangs, F-bodies, and BMW’s like they were pulling drag chutes. I got passed a few times by more experienced drivers, but over all I was very pleased.
I love this car. It’s a shame I’m driving it to death though.
I just try to think of it like a fine bottle of wine. It’s not doing you any good sitting on the shelf. I bought this car to drive, and drive it I do.
Now that it’s getting a bit long in the tooth I pretty much stick to the commute. However with 200 miles of freeway everyday there are plenty of pricks out there that need to be put in the rear view mirror, so I can still have a little fun now and then.

good deal,
nothing wrong with driving it alot,i would but i live on an island.i was born and raised in L.A.,but lived in El Dorado Hills for a couple of years.used to go to heavnly valley to ski on the weekdays sometimes.were do you work,in frisco?my gilfriends dad used to have a cigar racing boat called the Black Widow,i drove it on lake tahoe once.had 2 blown 454s.
later,Todd.

I live in Martinez (the east bay really) and work in Rocklin (About 15 miles NE of Sac). I had the car before the job which started out as a contract gig actually, and eventually was talked into full time.
This is soon to end as we have decided to pull up stakes and head to points east in the fall. (maybe back to Texas, but probably Florida)
I'm from Austin/Houston, but the boss's sister lives in FL. (Guess who will most likely win this one?) :)
