Hi everyone...new to this forum and recently purchased my first vette, a '77 coupe. It's all new to me so I'm hoping you guys can answer my questions as work on it. First question is what do I look for if the horn is dead. I'm thinking there's a relay somewhere that may be bad but can't find anything to tell me where it is or what it looks like. Thanks for your help.

Welcome!

Welcome to the CAC!

I'm no expert at horns (well, using them, not fixing them) but I'd probably hook up a meter to the wiring at the horn itself and see if you're getting voltage when you press the horn button.

If not, then you'll need to check the switch in the button or something between the horn and the button (maybe a fuse, busted relay or disconnected, shorted or broken wire?)

If you are getting voltage then your horn itself is out, of course.

I just had mine replaced a month ago. . .

Thanks, Eric . I'll try checking to see if I get any voltage. If not , do you know where the relay is and what it looks like?
thanks

Just did one on my 96, it was the horn itself.

I just dealt with this on a 74 and it should be the same. The relay was under the dash near the steering column..Also check your fuses. If the actual horn isnt working you should hear the relay click.

Thanks for all the replies to my horn question. Now I have some ideas on where to look to solve my problem. I'll let you know when I get it solved.

Thanks,

Doug

Sometimes you get lucky and your solution is really easy. I had the same problem when I bought my '76. The first thing I checked was the connectors to the horns. They turned out to be corroded and it was a simple matter of cleaning them. Worked fine ever since.

Brian,

Yep mine was the same problem. Cleaned the connection and now I have a horn that works. I wish all the fixes were that simple

Thanks,

Doug
