Alright after only 24 hours i went to get keys made and it all of a sudden quit starting. It won't turn over or anything I think there might be a loose wire on the starter but does any one else have any ideas? My poor baby is dead!!

Do you still have power? Ok enough of the extremely obvious.. and on the the not so obviou, check the fuse panel could have blown one.

Yes, i have power every once and a while it will turn over but then it quits!! Poor Girl.

Sorry to hear about it. Hopefully this won't cost you what new brakes and tires cost me the first week I had my car.

Do you have power to other items such as the headlights. If no or very low headlights then it is likely the battery though the possibility of a loose wire and a charging problem are there as well.

If you can get it started with a jump take it to one of the garages, I think Pep Boys and Autozone will do this, that check your battery and charging system for free.

Beyond that others with more knowledge will have to chime in.

well it is going in for a check up tommarow or what was suppose to be a check up! I tried jumping her but she still didn't turn over!

Ok, some other ideas...

Igintion coil, pickup coil (if equiped) distributor cracked, bad or corroded contacts in the distributor possible rotor damage in the distributor, Plug wires.

Faulty alternator, if it turns over and runs for a sec then quits, fuel pump possibility.

I sure I could list other numerous items.. these are just on the top of my head.

You'll get her going again, a vette may fade but will never die :)

Check the easy stuff first..

  • Start at the battery and check both the + & - connections, clean them if needed, while there try to determine the age of the battery.
  • Check the connection at the Starter, check them all the hot lead and the connections to the selenoid.
  • Check the Gounding to the frame, should be under the battery to the frame.

It could be something as simple as a bad battery, or a bad connection in the hot leg or the ground.

Keep it simple, and keep notes of what you do so you don't retrace your steps or you can give your mechanic the details of what you already have checked.

Well i got her started and moved to my mechanic so they will fix her right up! :)

First start at the battery. Have the shop "Load Test" the battery. This will show if the battery was your only problem.
Make sure they check to see if the running voltage to the battery is over 13.5 Volts to the battery at idle....14.2 Volts is even better!

Here's a dumb question. Are you using the new keys? Does the old key have that black chip in it? I can't remember if my 84 Z28 had that, but if your vette has that system in it and the new keys don't, that could be a problem.

My 2 cents.....Michael
