Well, now the service manager at Tom Bannen Chevrolet insists his computers have my car listed as an export model.

How can I verify this, and what is the difference?

It may have been sold new in Canada. Check for factory stickers (door, etc.) that include a Maple Leaf.

Questions?

HI

First question, is where did you buy it? Dealer or private?

Second question, what does your title say if anything?

Third question, did you ask your dealer the difference between domestic and import? Like emissions?

Fourth question, is it legal to sell an import without disclosure. Could have been a servicemen stationed overseas that ordered it and then brought it back with him or had it shipped back to sell.

And the last question is that why didn't you pull a car-fax? This is discussed here over and over again to keep honest people honest.

Also try and find out if you sell it, do you have to disclose that it's an import.

Alan

p.s. Sorry for all of the questions, this will help you get more responses.

Caught me sleeping!

You are right l forgot about Canada being another country.

China Maybe!!!!!!!!!!

For Pete's sake everything l buy or touch is made in China, so l forgot about my Canadian friends.

If a GI buys a car overseas from our BX people it is a US spec car. If we buy a Euro spec car it is very difficult to ship it back. I do know of a guy who shipped back a '95 BMW M5 but, he had to post a bond and have it converted to US specs before he could drive it in the US. Very expensive.

It is likely that it is a Canadian car. One way to see is check your Twilight Sentinel. If you can't turn it off through the DIC it is a Canadian model.

Thanks for your replies. I should have been more specific. Actually I think the dealer is just blowing smoke because his tech did my column lock recall wrong -- he reprogrammed my PCM, as is done for export A4s and MN6s.

I have owned this car over five years now, bought it at Bill Heard, did run a Carfax, did buy my buildsheets (on the buildsheet at the top right there is nothing in the "export" block), etc. I even spoke to the original owner who owned the car for six months. It was originaly sold here in Nash. by Jim Reed Chevy. The dealer said it looks as if it was ordered in Michigan, but never shipped there. As I said I think he is just blowing smoke! One thing I wonder about though is that at the bottom of the build sheet the CHG CODE: is to Jim Reed, and the SHIP CODE: is to Pearson Motor Co. in NE. I assume this means the shipping company was Pearson Motors??

Oh well, I would like to get to the bottom of this. The dealer said he even went into his parts dept. and got his counter man to look up a part using my Vin #, and it came up as an "export" model. Why would no one else have mentioned this when I had it serviced before at other dealers?

I thought that the reprogram "reflash" of the PCM was standard procedure for the MN6. That's what my dealer did to mine in California and my C5 is definitely not an export model (maybe Republic of Kalifornia?).:L

If it's Canadian, I think it will have a Z49 options code.

Yes, but mine is an A4.

My CHG CODE and SHIP CODE list the same name, the dealer I bought it from. Sounds like you need to get in touch with Pearson in NE. They may be the ones that originally sold the car.

Good ruck!

For Mexico it will be RPO CV3 and for the rest of the world, RPO EXP...
