Did anyone else get their December Corvette Fever yet? On page 10, they quote Gary Cowger, president GM Engines North America as saying:

"First, it will be more powerful. In baseball terms-and this is a quiz-think about Ted Williams' unmatched feat from 1941: his batting average. Second, it will have a more athletic stance: a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs. For the first time since 1962, it will have fixed headlamps. Unlike the traditional pop-ups, this will allow the use of modern, high-technology lighting. You'll notice the Corvette badge is a bit different as well, trimmer and more athletic to match the stance of the car itself."

I looked up Ted's batting average in 1941: 406!

No new news here but it is in print for the first time that I have seen. Gotta say the 406HP is a bit of disappointment, but not enough to stop me from making payments again.

They spoiled me with the early speculations of 435 hp that 405 just doesnt do it for me.

I agree. 435 HP sounded really cool!! Maybe when we see the performance stats we will be assuaged.

Man, you guys are spoiled. 405hp put out by a car weighing a shade over 3000 pounds is pretty damn good, I think. Keep some perspective on things and think of how many cars it will outperform versus the select (and much more expensive probably) few that can outgun it.

As for the Z06 speculations, 500hp is just scary to me. You have to wonder when they'll put a cap on the power they give these cars like in the musclecar days.

They should put the hp in the vacinity of his times at bat in 1941. (456 times AB)

Longer Wheel base? Ooops guess he forgot to say its a Cadillac under the new glass :) I like how they "forget" to mention the dimensions are the same as the XLR.

I have to agree!!! I have mentioned the old HP days before. How much horsepower can the auto manufacturer put in the hands of "average drivers" for use on public roads! I think 405 is enough unless you race. Then aftermarket it.

Rocketblock-

It's never, ever enough. We're not talking about putting 400 hp in a Camry for the everyday driver. We're talking about Corvettes. Corvettes need more horsepower.

:)

Corvette's are meant for racing!!! Not driving your kids to soccer practice.

I've had 7 Corvettes over the years and I wouldn't buy one if all I could do is race it!!! It is a GT car and can wear many hats, including racer hat.

HI there,
Actually dimensions are NOT the same as XLR.
Track, different by 1.75 inches.
Wheelbase, different by 2.90 inches.
Anyways, until you drive the cars, how about just remembering that c6 is a evolution, NOT a revolution.
If anyone remembers, c5 GAVE XLR the platform by which it sits.

Nope not as I hear it.

(_ken ;) )

Ken,

You can't forget that the car will be lighter, have better aerodynamics and a transmission that should take advantage of that power much better than today's Z06. I don't think you'll be disappointed when the performance figures come out.

Edmund,

That was my post, I guess that "Ken" was hiding at the bottom when I copied from the C6 Registry.

And I agree with you, that's why I said that I'm still ready to start making payments on a C6. Although I'd like to see 435HP for nostalgic reasons, I expect to enjoy the 400+HP C6 more than any of my prior vettes.

Gosh - It's All So Confusing

Paul,

Are you trying to tell us that GM diagnostics document 4518932 is more accurate than rumors from Downers Grove. IL?

No...No that can't be true!!!

:crazy ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL ;LOL

c4c5 is right,

I ask Dave Hill point blank at Carslile, with witnesses, "evolution or revolution", and he responded along the lines of evolution all the way. I knew he could, the terminology is vague enough.

NOT doubting your veracity, just confirming data: Are you saying that the GM spec sheet says the C6 has a 2.9 in. SHORTER wheel base than the XLR? We've been told that the XLR has a 1.5 (1.2?) inch LONGER wheel base than the C5. Therefore the C6 has a SHORTER WB than the C5? This is BIG NEWS if I've understood you correctly.

One look at the C6 spy cars and the XLR and it's easy to believe that the C6 track is wider, I'm surprised it's ONLY by 1.75 inches.
