Ok, guys, (and gals), I'm still learning about these C5's, I have mine since February of this year.

The question: What is the sound I hear once in a while with the engine running at idle that sounds like a Dentist's drill? The sound only lasts about 5-7 seconds and I seem to notice it shortly after start up when I pull out of the barn and get out of the car to close the overhead door.

I do not have the select ride option, I know what the fuel pump sound is and it's an automatic.

Thanks.

Keep 'em rollin'. :W

GMJunkie,

Thanks, you are the man.

I found the AIR pump diagram on page 6-396 in book 3 of the FSM by stumbling around the index under "Engine Controls--Component Locator--Engine Control Component Views".

I can not find any information in the FSM on the AIR pump regarding its function or cycling. It is not listed under emission, exhaust gas, AIR pump, pump or any other name that makes sense.

Indexes are sometimes like the phone book things are listed under bizzare titles.
What gives?

I don't have a problem with it I just want to learn more about my ride.

Keep 'em rollin'

Buy a 3 book set of GM Service Manuals and you'll have enough reading material to last you for several years. :D

FYI....from what I've read and heard about on other forums as that the emission pump comes on automatically at start up to push clean fresh air into the system so you don't throw any problem codes. It serves no other purpose, and is barely heard over the noise of the engine, then shuts itself off. It has an inlet hose that is attached to the intake air filter housing so it draws filtered air.

That's about it!!
