i saw a car guy show the other day and forgot to write down the info and now i would like to learn more.
there is this tail piece for the tranny wich adds .20 on the gear like the button on the shifter the truckers use. it replaces the stock tail piece and runs to a button attached to the shifter ,after 1st gear you push the button and you get first plus .20 gear and so - on thru the other gears.
i never thought much about it at the time but the slowest spot is right after you hit second ,if first gear goes .20 higher it will set it up nice for a good pull in second.
if anyone knows more about this please let us know, someone like me wants to know...mike:Steer :duh ;help

I believe they are costly, about as much as a complete overdrive transmission. Also shifting 6 times would be boring. 20 % overdrive in 3rd is not that much. The unit increases the length of the transmission alot and our cars are quit limited in space. Even a 3 inch driveshaft pushes the space in the tunnel.
While a 400 is a tough transmission it takes about 35 horse more to operate then a 350 and a built 350 besides freeing up this horsepower can be a very good shifting reliable transmission.

for that reason i swapped out the th400 and went with a 350 turbo c/w shift kit and 2400 stall convertor, the 400 turbo i saw on t.v. was behind a 600 h.p. big block on a 1/4 million dollar rod.guess the cost doesn't matter to that guy.
maybe in 10 years it will be affordable.mike
