Went in Wed and drove the 04 Vette. This was the first time I'd had a chance to actually drive a Vette...I had wanted one based solely on the look of the car ;)

Love the features, bells & whistles. Had head's up - very cool, power seats - very nice, I could go on and on. The Cadillac of sports cars. lol.

The dealership made a pretty good deal, not quite as low as I was willing to pay, but better than I thought they'd come in at. We were about $4000 apart so we decided to go to dinner and talk it over.

Hubby was 100% for me getting this car - he wants me to be happy. :D Plus, he loves the car as well. But the thing was...once I drove it, while I do still really like it, it's just not me. Hard to explain, but I love the agressiveness and look of my TA. The Vette was much more, well, polished. Not me at all. Don't get me wrong, the Vette is an awesome car and I'll definitely be reconsidering in the next 10 years or so. But for now, my TA is what really gets to me.

Hubby asked me if I'd do it if they met my price. Nope. Then he wanted to know if I would take the Vette for a straight across trade for my TA. And I had to say no again. I was really disappointed. Not in the car, but in my reaction to the car. I was SET on getting it that night! :cry

We called the dealer to let them know and they wanted to know if I'd go for the deal if they met my price. Great dealership...I'd purchase from them in the future.

So, that's that. Guess I'll just be a lurker around here for the time being. Maybe in 5 or 6 years I'll be ready to get the Vette for real. Thanks everyone for the advice - I really appreciate it! :-)

That's okay!!!!

If you feel the vette isn't you then you should wait. You don't want to make a large purchase like that and then regret it later.

I still miss my SVT Mustang Cobra. I don't regret getting the Z06, I should have kept the Cobra though. I have always wanted a vette and I am happy every time I drive it. Cobra was fun to drive to especially since it was a convertible.

I was really hoping you were gonna consider getting a Z06. I know of only two gals who drive Z06's. There needs to be more of them.

As an alternative, perhaps you would prefer the look of an earlier vette. Maybe a C3 or C4. Less money, and perhaps you will feel right about driving it.

Anyway, you will always be welcome here in CAC with or without a vette. In the meantime how about putting up a photo in my Z06 Spy Cam Photo thread located in the General Z06 section of CAC. We would all be happy to check out your ride!!!!

Best regards,

the blackvette

I've heard similar comments about the C5 - from my wife. Her first Vette was a 93 coupe. She really loved that car. The C5 frenzy got to her and she bought a 98 coupe. Nice car but she never really fell in love with it. Actually said she liked the feel and looks of the old 93 better dispite the fact that the 98 was faster, smoother, etc.

We took a look around and found a 96 CE with the LT4 and Z51 and replaced the 98. She was happy again. We didn't loose anything in performance and she sure loved the feel of that car.

Alas, it didn't stay but 3 years. We started talking about getting a 50th AE convertible for her - totally different concept as all her other Vettes were coupes. She now is in love with the AE vert. I can't complain either.

We still have my first Vette - the old 92, so we have both worlds in our garage.

Just for general principles, why don't you check out a 96 LT4 car and see if it fits your style. You're never know if you don't drive one.

Consider other years

I agree with the others about considering an older car. My 92 and 67 are light years apart, and while I really like the 92 and it is a gas to drive, it will never hold the fascination that I have with C2s. They are hard riding, hot, noisy beasts, but I guess that is their charm. The newer you get the less they are like your TA. You could get a C3 or 4 for less money than you would have had to shell out trading.

Keep looking, you will find one that suits you............

I agree about the Z06...and the only reason I didn't consider it? I wanted the roof package. LOL. After my t-tops, there is no way I can be stuck in a hard top, at least not for the moment ;) Other than that, I would definitely have been looking at a Z06 instead. In fact, earlier this year I was looking at them and considering the purchase of one. Has the power I want, the look is much more to my liking, and perhaps I should have driven that one instead and just forgotten about removable roof.

I'm not crazy about any generation other than the C5. Guess I'm somewhat odd <gg>

I've been meaning to get some pics taken of my car. I'll get some taken today and post them.

Not many women drive the Z06? Wonder why? :-)

I had the same issue with the fixed roof. I would prefer to be able to remove the top targa style, or even have the convertible. But I wanted the attitude of the Z06. If you think that the C5 is not rough enough, try a Z06. I have learned to live with the fixed roof. Hey- it's a sacrifice, but somebody has to do it! :D

Yeah-I always drove convertibles, BUT after test driving the Z06, that didn't seem so important anymore!

The looks you get driving a Z06 is amazing! The power is amazing. Nah-forget the roof, it becomes a moot topic.

Don't know why there are so few gals with Z06's. I never met one in person at my cruise in. Only here on the web.

There is this Ms. Schroder Z06 gal here. She knows a lot. Hell, she has rhino ramps and may even change her own oil. She is from Georgia, which kinda explains it! HAHAHAHAHA :L

First, I've never driven a C5... but from what I've heard a dozen+ times, they are really fast and very civilized sportscars. A generation or 2 behind could be your answer. Give a good 92-96 Lt1 a shot, maybe an LT4 (96 6 speed or Grand Sport) or an Lt5 (ZR1). While I've never driven a ZR1 I've been behind the wheel of a nice LT4... Fast, sports car cockpit, great chassis and hang on tight attitude.

Anyways, I'll leave you on that thought, since I'm sure I won't be the last to try and convince you to stick with the Corvette.

I am very seriously considering buying a new C5 while I still can. I also really like the idea of the removable tops on the coupe. That is, until this past Tuesday, when I test drove a coupe and Z06 back-to-back. I do not think the coupe I drove had the Z51 suspension. Anyway, I drove the Z06 first immediately followed by the coupe. The Z06 felt worlds apart from the coupe, with a much more controlled ride (surprisingly not too stiff) and far more power when cruising the highway in 5th gear. The Z06 tires and suspension make a huge difference in ride over the base coupe. After my test drives, the removable tops are long forgotten. Plus, the Z06 sounds and feels much more like an old muscle car than the coupe, although it is strictly a matter a personal taste. For me, the Z06 is unquestionably the car to buy. Now I just need to convince myself to spend the money. ;)

Another satified Z06 test driver!!!!! :D

Cherie,

Wondering if it was the color? Also, 'vert? auto? These things change the feel of the car greatly.

btw REMEMBER, the 04 is the last year of the c5. Your next choice will be c6 ONLY. (not sure if you would like the look of the c6?!)

I kinda, think that you should drive another vette in a couple of days. See if you change your mind again.

ENJOY THE RIDE.

Hey webgyrl,

You know the C6 is coming out soon.:D The convertible won't be out till later this year but it'll have almost as much power as the current Z06. Not saying it's faster or anything, but the power numbers are similar.

I think some more research may be in order. There are so many options available in the coupe that you can be drive two 04 coupes and have two totally different experiences. An auto coupe will feel totally different power wise compared to an auto with the performance rear axle, which will feel totally different to six-speed car. Base suspension versus Z51 sport suspension will also make a huge difference.

I don't know what options were on the car you drove (other than those listed, HUD, etc.) so it could have just been how the car was optioned.

As to the Z06, what a car. :) We test drove an 03 anniversary Z06 a year ago and it was all I could do to get my WIFE out of the showroom. We found the C5 FRC the next week and wasted no time getting that. I think one reason you don't see many women in Z06's is the 6-speed tranny. There are few women that appreciate cars enough to buy and drive performance cars with manual trannies. My wife is one of the those women. Other than the F-150 we have, she's never owned an auto tranny car. :)

The other suggestions are valid. A 96 LT4 might be just what you're looking for ride and power. Personally, I can't wait to trade up my C4 vert for some thing that won't feel like the rear tires will come loose when you push the limits in a corner. Very unsettling at times.

Good luck with your search and decision. Think about the options as well.

Leon,

Try what I tried. Z06 tires on the rear. GY F1 Supercar. 2754017. These stick.

Maybe. I think part of the problem is all the chassis flex allows the rear to get really squirrelly at times. I currently have GS-C's on there but will put the F1 GS-D3 on the back when the time comes. I have these on the front and love them.

When your ready try www.kerbeck.com
Their selection is awesome and last month 2004 coupes were over $9000 off sticker. I could have gotton a brand new car exactly the same as my 2002 for $5,00 less than my deal 2 summers ago.Their in Atlantic City. Wait a month or 2 and the deals will be back. A no nonsense dealer. Ask for Dave Brown and tell him you know Joe Young. The easiest car purchase I ever made. Good luck and keep your youth by pumping
your adrenalin evertime you turn the key. Check out their inventory at the web site.
Peace!

Hey Bill,

I'm an M6 gal. This was a manual, black. Black is the only color I'll drive/get ;) My TA is black as is our Avalance. This is my second TA...traded in my other (black as well) 99 for this 99 as it was WS6.

So with a Z06...gotta be black there too :D

and you're right, I don't like the C6. I really REALLY like the C5 body. I had a heck of time getting the dealership to let me drive the one I did...I'm thinking they would not let me drive a Z06 unless I signed the financing first. :cry

It looks like the dealer was going to meet us at or VERY close to my out-the-door price. I was looking at out-the-door (including trade in of my like new TA) of $25k. When we called to say no go on the deal, he brought up our bottom line price..wanted to know if I'd do the deal then.

That was for Vette with 1SB package and a few other options. We looked at listing...it was everything you can get except the handling and the Z06 packages. You name it, it had it. ;)

didn't get the Vette

Webgyrl, I understand how you feel. I had 2 TAs, 98,99 both with the WS6 pkg. both black. They were a fun car and a real attention getter especially in black. But also, I don't regret getting back to the Vettes. Of course I went with the Z06, black '01, silver '02, and now a Millennium yellow '04. I liked the TA but am so glad I went with Z06. Never regretted it for a moment.

Ok, I have a Z06 Black 2003 as well! Black sucks back the wind real good.
But, The z is NOT a daily driver. More like racing driver and all your senses must be on high alert. FAST. and NOT fun driving in stop and go traffic.

Best of luck. BTW checked-out your website. Your business? I run an ISP in Toronto..
