Did a 'search' but didn't find anything.

Just wondering, what's preferred for a 'sealant' between the aluminum/paper/aluminum diff cover for a 80-82 diff?
NO synthetic gear oil will be used!

I already have...
Permatex HighTack Gasket Sealant (brush-on) I like this stuff, but for gear oil w/limited slip additive will it hold-up?
Permatex aviation Form-A-Gasket compound (brush-on)
Permatex #2 (tube) (I'll purchased to use on the pinion-yoke flange splines)

A Permatex rep is pushing their 'new' "gear RTV sealant #81181" but that's mainly/specifically designed for synthetic gear oil. And, of course no one around me carries it.

Thanks for the feedback

Way off from what you have listed, I'd use 3M 8001 weatherstrip adhesive on one side (my choice would be on the cover). The sealing is going to be by the paper gasket, all you need is to hold it in place during assembly. And in the event you need to open it up again, cleaning the gasket off the cover that's solidly mounted is going to be much easier than rolling the pumpkin around and then getting all the trash in there.

I just answered on DC, Ultra Gray will work with gasket and gear oil. That is what I use.

Tim, thanks for you're feedback.
For a "normal pumpkin and it's little hubcap rear cover" I fully get your reasoning.
This 4-foot across so called "batwing" is the rear cover!
I don't believe the front 'diff' section can be removed leaving the rear batwing cover bolted to the frame...unless maybe the rear cross-frame comes out.

I just used the gasket that came with the rebuild kit. As it didn't have a gasket in OEM condition I think it will also do great without a gasket and just a sealant.

Greetings Peter

Interesting yours didn't have a gasket yet mine did...your's may have been one of those Friday end of shift builds lol
