I have a 66 coupe, rebuilding the rear suspension.
The rear cross member is really stuck to the car.
Is there an easy way to yank the cross member in order to get at the diff bolts??

i've done it on my 75. lots of oil ,a crowbar,a ballpein hammer etc, can't use heat it will ruin your bushings. big pry bars work better

Welcome to our forum.

The rear crossmember gets stuck in place. And the worst part of it that your pulling, prying, yanking, and when it does come loose it real eavey and dangerous.

I sprayed every thing with WD40 and let it soak a few days ,I then took a small flat body dolly spoon and placed it on the sides of the crossmember and hit it with my air chizzel with a blunt faced chizzel all the round the circumfrence of where they mate together ( I used the body dolly soes not to damage the crossmember) I then sprayed it again and let it soak.I removed the bolt and insert one 1" longer and did not thread them in all th way (they were there to catch the rear section when it came loose) I used a snap on pry bar with an angelled foor on it and it came off but just tweeking all the way around the circumfrence, I was pre warned I was going to have troubles and started pre soaking it a couple of days before I started.

Yeah..It can be a night mare getting that sucker to brake loose.. As posted ..make sure you have some longer bolts up their to hold the diff and the member when it snaps apart.

I soaked mine for a week straight with PB Blaster and stiill had a hell of a time . The driver side came apart after a few hours of prying and banging. The passenger side was another story. I finally got me a 6ft pry bar and went to work on that sucker..only to have the peaned over tabs on the bushing which are bent over at 90* on the crossmember straighten out..!!! That's when the X member came apart and slipped away from the rubber bushing.

The rubber bushing was left still frozen on the Somebaero..!!! I had to shave it off piece by piec witha saw's all..!!! And then grind off the rest. What a pain..!!!

Good luck with yours...:beer

No magic, unfortunately. Welcome to the CAC!!

There is a magic bullet. Joe Lucia (NCRS part number guru) posted it on this forum and on ncrs.org several times. In CA there is a franchise called Orchard Supply. If you get the second largest green pry bar that they sell - it fits between the frame and crossmember and pops the two apart.

I had my sister in law from CA get me one several years ago. Post the problem on NCRS.org and I'm sure Joe will give you the same reply.
