I am wondering if anyone can tell me what changed in 77 that seems to indicate that a radio from a 76 and older would not work. Is this just with the factory items, or is this also true in the aftermarket? I can get one for a 76 that is a decent price, but not sure it would work. Thoughts?

The 77 center gauge cluster and console were changed to allow generic GM stereos to fit the Corvette.

Stereos in the 68-76 models were two part with the final audio output being a separate unit due to space restrictions behind the dash. These units were Corvette specific and were not used in other GM makes.

For your '77, you want a '77 and later stereo.
