A friend advised me to change the rear end lube on my '96. Do you have to siphon the old lube out or is there a way to drain it? Thanks

The General was too cheap to provide a drain plug so most people pump the old lube out with a small hand pump, however it is not difficult to install a drain plug and it makes future service a breeze. See the link below, my post #4 shows what it required.

This has my interest too as I feel I want to change out the fluid soon. Where would I be able to siphon the fluid out if I did not opt to install the drain plug? Also wouldn't you want to install a fill plug too? If so where would yo urecommend it. I am open to any and all ideas.
Thanks

If you put a drain plug in then you still need a hand pump to put fluids back in. And most gear lubes today are syn. so you don't have to change them. Maybe way back in 96 they were syn. I thought I read that some where.

Just pump it out. You can find gear lube pumps at all auto parts stores...then use that same pump to refill the diff.
