I recently had work done to my '64 coupe's differential. Everything was changed excet the ring & pinion. Since then I have a very audible whine coming from the rear end. I was told this would go away in about 1K after the gears seat. Is this true or am I being taken for a whiney ride. Help please!:confused :confused :confused

If you have the same gearset you had before and it didn't whine before, it shouldn't whine now, unless the tooth pattern/pinion depth and backlash wasn't set up correctly when it was rebuilt. Take it back and tell them to do it right. Old gears don't need to "seat" - they did about 35 years ago; if they whine now, their normal pattern has been changed, and they'll wear rapidly.

John, I'm so happy to finally get a response and especially from
a person with your back ground. I'll contact them again (3 times)
and try to get more out of them. Thanks
