77 dipstick holder came off of the block when I checked the oil yesterday. Anyone know the best way to make it stay on there? I just changed the oil a couple of weeks ago, but I am sure some gunk is going to fall in the block trying to clean and fix this, so will need to change again. Thanks.

Had the same thing happen to me. Just buy a tube of permatex and put a bead on the underside of the ring that is on the dipstick where it contacts the block. Just make sure to clean the area good.........apply a small bead......and push the tube back into the block. I haven't had any more problems after that. Hope that helps....

Could you stuff a small piece of paper towel into the top of the hole and clean around it? When you pull the paper towel out, it should brush any debris away from the dipstick hole.

just put a little bend in the tube (the inserted section) when it is half way into the block. you may need to tap on the stop ridge with a screw driver to get it all the way in the block, but it should not come out again.
