I have a 1967 coupe. The directionals blink a few times and then stop working.
Changed the flasher, checked the bulbs not sure what to do next. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Tom

Do the lights quit in the ON mode

EG say your making a left... blink, blink nada... is the indicator on the dash still lit PLUS both exterior lights still on...?

Do the emergency flashers work ?

Have you tried cleaning / inspecting the fuses ?
( In my 64 the fuse panel was CRUSTY )

Oh and

is there a speed change during the 2 or 3 flashes, however many till it quits ?

You know the flasher ( if it's old skool ) senses current by a coil of wire which heats up a bi metal strip ( read switch )....
SO if it pulls to much current the Bi metal will stay open....

That being said you could jump between the 2 pins and see if all the bulbs are actually working...

HowStuffWorks "How Turn Signals Work"

Same speed then just stops. How do I jump between the 2 pins, just put a wire between them?

The answer is YES

I would put a small fuse in line just as a CYA

Let me clarify

You could use just a wire....and that would work
BUT
If it was my car ( because I'm really careful with 40 yr old wiring )

I would have a wire with an inline 5A ish fuse and use that to jump the 2 points

I tried to jump it, now I get not lights anywhere. There is power to the flasher connection.

Dont know what to do next?

So you jumped it

and no you get NO lights ( no headlights, running lights, dash lights, emergency flashers ) ?

When viewing the fuse block from inside the car, the fuses should be as follows from the top down:

1. Parking Brake Alarm - Gas Gage
2. Heater Blower Motor
3. Radio
4. Panel Lamps
5. Tail Lamps
6. Courtesy Lamps - Stop Lamps

The top three fuses (no.'s 1, 2, & 3) are powered thru the ignition switch, i. e., they only have power when the switch is on.
End of stolen data

Your interested in the #4 fuse.. check & see if you have power on both sides of the fuse...

It's a BRN ( brown ) going into the flasher and a PPL ( purple ) going out of the flasher...
This goes UP to the 9 pin harmonica connector to connect the steering column wiring to the body electrical.
Pin 1 should be a white and pin 9 No connection.
Pin 4 on the Harmonica connector should have a purple wire going in.. This is the other side of the flasher.
Pin 7 that is a DBL ( dark blue ) Right hand turn circuit
Pin 8 that is LBL ( light blue ) left hand turn circuit

No all the lights work, just not the directionals.

So is any of this technical information helping ?

Have you tested the #4 fuse... if yes , how?

Didn't we just do this same complaint? No turn signals in a 1967 Coupe. Have you searched the threads for "No turn signals"

Mark.

Sorry that thread was about lights not working not just the directional signal lights. Mike posted a lot of good information in that thread. Look at "Help! 1967 corvette fuse block".

If you bridge the flasher unit the lights will not blink but stay on steadily. Depending on which side (left or right) the lever is positioned in.

They blink a few times then stop.

Do you have a test light

have you tested anything yet?

Signal lights

Tom,
I had this issue several years back. Like yourself, I changed the flasher that didn't cure the problem. After hunting and pecking around like yourself, I discover the flasher I purchased was a piece of junk. Bought one at the dealer and walla - all is well.

BTW, the turn signal switch in your column can get pretty pricey. Same part number on a Corvair for 1/4 of the cost. Same with stock steel wheels - get 'em off any old Chevelle. :-) Good luck in your electrical hunt.

Thanks Joe, tried 2 flashers already.

Was yours working intermittently?
