Distributor Replacement

I'm in the process of removing the computer from my 81. When I went to put in my new HEI distributor the vacuum advance seems to be hitting the intake manifold (Won't slide all the way in yet the gears are meshing). Anyone ever have this problem? If so, how'd you get around it.

Try backing it up one tooth, that should give you just enough clearance.

Don't forget that the bottom of the gear also has to engage the oil pump drive shaft.
