Hi! I want to thank everyone for their advice on the diverter valve. It turns out that NAPA discontinued this part in 2001, but, loud valve and all, the car passed its emission test just fine. So, what I then did is drive home and simply take off the air pump belt (hey, I honestly tried...next time don't discontinue the part before the smog laws run out)! I think I figured out how to fix the valve, so will tinker with it some time later---or just put on the air pump belt for next year's emission test, as the pump doesn't effect the running of the car at all.
As I said, this is my only car and I drive it all the time. It's a real car, not a trailer queen, sunny day only car etc. I am always experimenting with new stuff to improve safety and performance, so will be asking a lot of "has anyone tried..." questions (I think these C3 model Corvettes are the closest USA cars to the old English kit and "cottage industry" cars, except they run---they're sort of like go karts in how they handle, and you can tinker with so many things). Here are two: First, has anyone tried the slotted brake rotors such as "Power Slot"? If so, did they work or was it hype? I currently use Hawk brake pads, and it is the pad right below their street/autocross pad. They bill their street/autocross pad as having very high braking power, but with increased wear, dust and noise. Hmmmm....has anyone tried these? Finally, I suppose you've seen the "Steeroids" power rack and pinion steering. This sort of re-engineering scares me a bit, and I am wondering if anyone has tried this.
Thanks, again
