I've been searching for new wheels and while I'm not completely convinced that I've made up my mind, I wanted to get some of your opinions.

You'll have to excuse the amateur cut/paste job, but I think you get a good enough idea. (I hope!)

So wondering if you think the new wheels (bottom pic) go well with the car or not:

Love 'em... they DO go well. I had your 'before' wheels on a tran am in the late 70's/early 80's. I think that style died with the 80s.

All I can say is "Bingo we got a winner" ;)

eric, do you have another side view of your current wheels. i have the same wheels ,except unpainted. i would like to see if mine would look better that way.
also, who manufactured your sidepipes?

thank you

robin

The headers/sidepipes are all Hooker. Here's another side pic. The rims originally were unpainted, but over the years they really started to look bad. They were painted black and then the tops of each spine were lightly sanded to bring out the raw metal. Made it a LOT easier to maintain.

Oh - and I added the spinner caps since the original American Racing caps were pitted and faded.

Here's another pic:

Oldies but Goodies...

Eric: -excellent Rt.sideview of your great C3 (and perceive you are keenly endeavoring to convey a "visual adventure"), and while in my opinion your present Turbovane-wheels look potentially "much better" than the popular glittery aftermarket "stodgie Cart-wheel style", from a stylistic point of view (as an automotive-designer) i would rather see the radial-vanes portion painted all black-epoxy and only the very center and outermost rim portions highly-polished (preserve with Valspar/urethane-spraypaint); --which would make a much faster looking design statement! Right now, the radial-vanes impart a rather harsh visual-impact that tends to conflict with the also very strong C3-body character-lines (although both the wheels and the body designs are very American)! So simply subduing the very attractive radial-vanes (they will still catch the light in a more interestingly subtle way as they rotate), should let the observer's mind's-eye make its initial scan, -and then notice the radial-vanes in a way that would allow the observer to thereby "pleasingly discover" the exciting styling element conveyed by the radial-vanes (which alternately, -the radial-vanes might also be dark/Mag-grey finished)! Hope i am communicating as desired here, --in other words, right now the wheels are shouting HEY LOOK "RADIAL-VANES", --when it would be more kool to be visually saying: --Dynamic C3/body-styling accented with harmonizing Hi-tech wheels and nifty Knock-off style hubs....
Sincerely, ~Bob vH
:SLAP :dance
ps: -visually could really do without the rear-spoiler, as to me it conflicts with the luggage-rack and needlessly shrouds the lovely tapering-deck design (but realize it is rather a personal-signature thing, so should probably stay; --maybe if the horizontal-wing portion were floating there actually above the aft-deck about 2" it would not so visually-choke the rear motif); --yet really like the exciting visual-dynamics of the streaming-vent paint-job and sidewinder-exh.system...

i would rather see the radial-vanes portion painted all black-epoxy and only the very center and outermost rim portions polished;

Wow- now there's an interesting idea! Let me play around with my photo-touch up program and see if I can can "sample" what you're talking about. If it comes out well enough, I'll post another "touched up" picture.

Thanks for the great input!

OK - I tried to "paint" the radial-vanes black. Let me know what you think:

Personally I think the present turbovane wheels look great. The style goes with the era. Might be a tad retro but so what. If it looks good it looks good retro or now. I also like the rear spoiler.

This guy here's got some Seriously Disgustingly Hot rims on his Vette!! (a big compliment in my lingo, sorry)

The retro ones are on point. Painted black they look even better. You could def paint them for a while before you buy some other ones to see how you like it. But that looks awesome. Big fan of that old school look.

That pic I posted gave me an idea for when I go from the white paint job to the charcoal one. I saw these today at Pepboys
theyre Konigs which I dont thinkll fit but you see the style Im getting at.

Just an idea.
