If I change my 94 to true dual exhausts with long tube headers and two hi-flow cats, cross over and mufflers ,are there other things that need to be done? What are the best cats or are they about the same? Will the check engine light come on with changing the exhaust system? Thanks

The best? I never know what's the best anything anymore. :L

Random Technology cats are always the first name that comes to mind for me, although I have no direct experience with them.

You should not have any problems with a "check engine light" if you switch to true duals, as long as the sensor(s) are retained.

As long as you re-install the Oxygen sensors at a point where they will see the same amount of exhaust heat as stock, you should be OK.

I hate to say this but, you have a true dual exhaust! thats if you have a LT type engine.

Dual Exhaust

Yes it is true, your exhaust system is a dual exhaust. There are two seperate pipes the chanel through the resonator. Of course adding headers, and a larger diameter exhaust system will greatly improve performance.

service engine light

I just put Long tube Hedman headers with the egr stuff, eliminated the Cats, replaced the O2 sensor and the light does not come on!

Not universally true. A larger pipe will slow the flow, reducing the scavenge effect of a tuned exhasust. You must look at the most restrictive cross section of the entire system, which is likely, the CAT.

BTW, my 406 blows quite nicely through a new, stock, single, factory, 1984 GM, Corvette CAT. My (illegal) CAT test pipe sits in a cabinet.

The only input to the ECM is this area is the oxygen sensor, which, as stated above, feeds info back to the ECM for its engine adjustments. Long tubes can be ordered with the bung for fitting it.
