Been seeing those "solar panels" you can wire into your battery to help maintain a trickle charge. If it works, I could use it, especially in SoCal with as many fuse popping gremlins as I have.... What are your opinions?

Find and fix the problems ! fuses are not there to to stop battery drain. Fuses prevent fires!!! please fix the problems and save your Vette.

I agree with Bill. Electrical problems can be fatal if ignored. If you are blowing fuses you need to find and fix the problem. If not your next move will be to put in a heavier fuse or somehow bypass the fuse to keep it from annoying you.

After that look out your vette may go up in a puff of smoke.

I guess I should have been a little less dramatic, I have many electrical problems, none of which are blowing fuses, some just arent working. wipers, horn, interior lights and such.

I was just wondering the effectiveness of these solar panels to combat general time related battery drain.

I use a solar panel to help keep the battery's charged on my boat when I'm fishing with the kicker moter. I have the fish finders & tunes on & the main engine off and the panel will help but I would'nt want to try to charge a dead battery with one. If you use the car and the battery and charging system are in good shape I really don't see a use for one on a car other than outside storage if you have alarm an system running or something that will drain the battery.

I can relate, Jenshammer - I've had the same problems. The previous owner said my car sat for a year and a half, but I think that's a little conservative. So far I've replaced both horns AND the relay, power lock switch on one side and pigtail on the other, power seat still doesn't work, blower motor ditto - but I got parts for it, interior lights are hit or miss - usually hit, replaced the lighter. But hey, it runs and was very affordable, I get to spend more time with her this way! Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

My Buddy uses a solar panel and wind turbine to power 3 deep cycle batteries that keep us in the light and with tunes all night long. Even a conservative use of power is still enough to drain them in a few hours and requires a full day or two to bring them back to full charge. Nornally a properly functioning charging system in a properly working Corvette should last several years without even thinking about it.

Don't be a bubba! Fix it, use it, fugedaboudit!
