Hey all,

My outer door handle works great but, as most do, they've fallen quite a bit. I want to get those replacement springs that slip under to handle. Has anyone ever installed these and have some advice? Will I need any special tools?

not worth the effort...

in my opinion.

I bought a pair of those springs, read the provided instructions (all 5 words) and couldn't make sense of how I was supposed to make them fit under the flap. So I (like you did) dropped a note onto this forum and received about 4 different responses as to how they work and how they are supposed to be installed.

Ultimately, I got one in and it did little or nothing except create one more "edge" to cause a hangup as the handle tried to return to the released position. The other spring broke before I could get it under the flap....

IMO you're better off replacing the door handle. I should mention that when I bought my new door handles I was warned off the cheap ones in favor of the GM type. Apparently the cheap ones have a tendency to come apart with use.

I thin if you'll search this forum you should find at least two threads on the "spring" subject.

Good Luck,

Here are the instructions that came with mine...they seem to be pretty clear and straightforward.

As to whether or not they work...the answer is well, sort of. Sometimes they do, and sometimes not. I think it really depends on how bad yours is and whether or not it's getting hung up on anything.

Another thing you can do is to make sure everything is lubed up in there with some silicone spray. It makes the handle move easier if you spray it where the spring and hinge are.

For the few bucks it costs, it's not such a waste if you find it doesn't work for you, but is a totaly value if it does. At the least, it should help some and hold you over till you decide to but a whole new unit.

I wonder why they just don't sell the replacement spring itself instead of having to buy a whole new handle? Strange to me but, what can ya do?!

Hope this helped a bit!

Enjoy!

i did it....

biggest thing to remember is to not bend it too far together..it will snap...experience....i mis-read the instructions...it has been in for over a year now and if you didnt know , you couldnt tell it was there, brought my driverside handle back to life...try this...take the inner skin off and look at the room you have to work with , consider the cost of a new handle...not the cheap one but the real deal, and then decide for yourself...not much room in there...just my opinion pal, good luck...chas

THANX
