The Problem: Driver's door is not aligned and is difficult to close..

When I open the driver's door just past the body; I can lift up on the end of the door and move it up about 1/4". I know the door is low on the end as the moulding does not line-up.

But the further the door is opened the less up movement I get. At full open the movement is gone.

Is this the door hinge, the hinge pins/bushings or something else?? I can see no wear in the upper bushings, but hard to see and lift at sametime.

Thanks,

sounds like a loose hinge or maybe a broken pin

If you do not find the cause, I would suggest you take it to your favorite and/or reliable body shop for an estimate.
Doors can be very difficult to align and if done improperly, can cause damage to adjacent panels or to the door itself. Even if they didn't do the work, you would probably learn what is causing the problem.

Sounds like worn out pins and bushings in hinge. Pretty easy fix but only remove one hinge at a time and rebuild and you won't have much trouble. I believe most auto parts should have pins and bushings, not expensive either.

I thiink its worn hinge pins and bushings...but have not been able to determine which one for sure. So I was just going to replace both pins and the four bushings and be done with it.

However, taking the hinge off it no problem...just support the door, take off one hinge at a time, repair it and then put it back, get the next one.

Has anyone done this? At the top of both pins, they have been squeezed and have flat spots that I assume keeps the pins in place. How do one get these pins out?

Thanks,
Lanny
