Doors interior handle??

My Dad is seriously considering getting back into a Vette (His forth) but the thing that scared us was the interior door handle!!

Where is it??

I read on the forum that it is a electronic switch....WHAT!! What happens in an accident and the battery gets killed or cut off or lets say a bad alternator and your batterys dead! How the heck does one get out???

Onstar?? Thats dead to!!

Did GM at least put a safety handle tucked away somewhere?

(BTW I have NOT seen the C6 so if this sounds ignorant please tell me so LOL)
 
I have sat in the C6 and I believe that there is a manual lever to open the door on the floor near each of the doors. You will get a more detailed answer from others on the forum who either have driven one or own one already.
 
Indeed, veteluvr74 is correct. There are manual release handles on the floor beside the seat, between the seat and the door. Just reach down, pull up and the door pops open.
 
Think of the handle as a cockpit canopy opening lever!
 
I drove a C6 a couple of days ago -- see my post here in another thread (where I specifically mention the door handle issue).

Maybe it was my unfamiliarity with the car (and the salesman's as well), but getting out was a *****. I'm sure there is a magic combination of things you need to do, but pressing the unlock button and then the door button didn't seem to be one of them.

Part of the problem seems to be an auto locking feature that doesn't allow itself to be disabled (according to someone else who replied on another forum). So here's the question:

While I can see the advantage of not being able to open the door from the outside when it's locked, what is the advantage to not being able to open the door from the inside when it's locked as well. So you can "lock yourself in?" Maybe for the passenger if it's a small child, but the driver? He/she should be adult enough to figure out when the time comes to open the door on their side.

In any event, it seems to be much more of a strumenza than it needs to be, plus like someone else posted on another forum, what happens up north when the door has frozen shut -- how do you give it a "tug" from the outside to get back in. Although I've heard Chevy has a door jamb heater option to go with the heated seats. Press the jamb heater activation button on the fob, wait fifteen seconds, and voila, the door heats and pops open, ready for entry, and warm to the touch -- if you want to touch it, but there's apparently no need to anymore.

I'm all for technology, but this is clearly a Cadillac XLR type gimmick.
 
Im sure the automatic locking mech can be disabled via a scanner/programmer device. But all Im glad to hear is that there is a manual handle for release
 
Hi there,
Autolocking can be disabled with vehicle personalization in the DIC.
All function of the keyless entry can be programmed to your personal preference.
Also, with the engine running, as a safety feature you must program out the change in the door operation.
As with anything, there is a learning curve.
Customer delivery that I do with c6 takes 4.0 hours to properly make sure that the customer knows how every system works.
A test drive just does NOT give enough time.

Can you list all the possible doorlock options that we can customize through the DIC? This is something *we* can do without having the dealer do it? My Lexus requires the dealer to personalize this, so being able to do it yourself would be a big plus! (Are the instructions in the owners manual?)

unlock *both* doors with fob at once
disable *autolock*
