I have a Doug Nash 4+3 and the over drive kicks in and out when it likes most of the time when the motor is running cool but not always. When it does kick in and out you can feel it and see it by the R's and the OD light is working correctly also. However it is still uncontrolable I can't turn it on and I can't turn it off either. Is there anyway of solving this problem or has anyone had this problem.
Please dont refer me to the thread posted a while back that is 6 pages long I looked there and still couldn't find an answer to this question there.
Thanks,
Tom

Good chance it is the switch, given the lack of control with it. Puzzling though, is if this occurs only when the car is cold.

Mine did the cycling thing due to an overly rich, I believe condition. This was caused by both a more aggressive cam and old plug wires, and happened at freeway speeds, even when warmed up.

New plug wires solved the problem, believe it or not.

Then, the o/d fluid level was normal.

Does he light cycle with the unit or stay on when switched on?

Nyernga, the 86 has the switch on the shifter like later years, and it's also the only year where the ECU controls the OD. There's no third connector on the transmission. I've been trying for months to figure a way around it, even seeing if Jeff could burn it into the memcal he did for me - but all he could find was the ability to change at what speeds the OD comes on and off.

There is a set of wires, though, that sends the shift signal to the OD. On mine, it had melted through the insulation more than once by contacting the exhaust - you can see the repairs. This might be something to check.

Dont for get the OD realy in the engine bay, next to the fan relay or the mass burn off relay.
