I have a Doug Nash 5 speed to go in the 65. I know I need a Turbo 400 slip yoke. Are they all the same? If not, which one do I need? I understand the u-joint size is an issue.

Thanks
Tom

The 400 yokes are getting hard to find, from what I understand. I just saw something in Hot Rod magazine the other day about that; and when I installed my ROD 6-speed, we had to search for one because the dealer didn't stock them anymore. It is necessary for the larger, stronger u-joints. ;)

A local drivetrain shop had one on the shelf, so I grabbed it. From a TH400 is all I know.

I presume that the Doug Nash is the same as the new Richmond. 32-spline output shaft.

The 400 output yokes might be hard to get from GM but I think Spicer dealers have a yoke that's equiv. I get them from Inland Empire Driveline Service in Ontario CA. www.iedls.com

Thanks all.
Next question. Do I need one with "clamp on" or will a "press in" style u-joint attachment work? Is there one that uses the same size u-joint as the stock driveshaft or do I have to use a 2 sized u-joint.

Sorry for all the questions but I don't want to have the car down any longer than necessary when i do the install. Hopefully I can get everything I need before hand.

Thanks
Tom

Tom,

I found that the best way to accomplish what needed to be done on my car (Richmond 5-speed in midyear) was to use only the tail yoke from the original driveshaft.

New front yoke and U-joint, new tube, new rear U-joint.

Thanks. I don't think I will fabricate a new driveshaft. I will probably use a two sized u-joint if I cannot find a yoke that will fit the trans and the origonal driveshaft.

Thanks again.
Tom
