Down Shifting Problem...

Ok i have a 98 C5 with a M6 and now i am having a problem down shifting from 3rd to 2nd. it goes right into 2nd but when i let the clutch out to se the engine for break its kinda grinds and pops out of gear. Wondering if it could be the shifter linkage since it feels liek it isnt going all the way into gear. It all started after i rodded on the car and slammed it into second, maybe i got it out of adjustment. it doent grind or anything when i put it into gear. Any ideas?

It could be a bad synchronizer in the tranny.

Try the linkage adjustment first.
