I have the electrochromatic mirrors on my 01 convertible and the coating on the driver's side mirror has discolored. It almost looks like it melted down a bit. Can I get a new glass for this or will I have to order a new mirror?

you can get new glass... I think list is $453 for the glass.. I talked them down to about $365..

whole new assembly (glass, motor, housing) runs $700+

Its not a coating.. The local tech indicated to me there is fluid in the mirror and what you're experiencing is what happens when the seal pops.. hes said its a good idea to change it before it starts leaking on the side of the car because it eats paint!!:ugh

Wow I still cant get used to this stuff!!
So what you are saying is that after spending $400 - $700 for the part you have to install it yourself AND risk messing it up and be out that $$$ ????
When you get done all you have is a side view mirror????
Has there been a monetary inflation that I missed??
Why dont you remove the old "goo" and get a replacement mirror glass at Pep Boys. Then just glue it on. or get a junk yard regular mirror assembly replacement similar to yours.

One word - junkyard. Oops, make that automotive recycler. Look around, you may find exactly what you need.

thats the auto dimming technology... if you want to replace it with a non-electromagnetic mirror the part is $60.
