Hi everyone! Just in the last couple of days my 1989 vette (auto) 90k miles has started to give out a clunk sound when placed in drive or reverse. I dont seem to hear anything once im up and rolling,so am I right in thinking the universol drive shaft couplings are getting ready to dump a can of woop ass on me?
Ive got a Haynes repair manual and access to my machine shop at work where im an indust. maintenance mech., is this something I should do myself? All input is welcome! Thanks much! See ya on the road. Doug C. aka, Capt Bane

In my experience with my car i can tell you it is hard to determine where these noises are coming from. I have a clunk when my car is put in drive or reverse, but only part of the time. I also have a clunk when i accelerate from a stop. I have replaced all u-joints, and even considered a tranny mount problem. After my inspection i am ready to take it to a shop where they can inspect the differential. If my memory serves me right a lift would be great to do the drive shaft ujoints.

Good Luck
Craig

It might be your transmission mount. In LT-1s this is a common problem after about 90K miles, maybe it holds true for L98s as well.

How would one go about checking the tranny mount?
