I have a 1997 Corvette I just purchased the AC works ok all the buttons are fine but I have no display. Is there a fuse or something I can check or is the display just out and has to be services or replaced. If so any suggestions as were I can find a service center aside from the dealer?

Also I have the bose system I had a 92 before that also had a bose system and it was a pain to upgrade that radio. Are these newer suckers the same? Built in amps on the speakers? Last question what size speakers are on the doors and rears? Thanks for you help.

Hi there,
First, welcome to the CAC.
Second, your display on your climate control is dead, this means replacement of the control head. Very expensive item, and it is not repairable. The 97 models were very problematic for issues like this, and leaving the blower motor on, when the ignition was turned off.
Next, the audio is Bose, and there are the 2 front door speaker assemblies, each assembly carries 2 speakers, and an amplifier.
Now a 3.5 tweeter and an 8 inch subwoofer are in the doors, with the amplifier.
Your 6.5 midrange is in the rear. Your amplifiers in the doors only drive the subs, not the tweeters.
Your tweeters and midrange are driven by the radio amplifier.
If you remove the headunit, you will cause communications codes in the body control module, and other modules, so be cautious.
Can you mod the sound system, yes, if done carefully.
You can note the attached figure for located components. 2 is your head unit, 15 is your Bose signal processor, 11 is your antenna module, 8 is an optional 12 disc changer.

Thanks for your help. So I should be able to keep the Head unit, which is ideal since I want everything to look stock. Replace the 8 in the doors with better subs and bypass the bose amp in the doors in order to run the 8s from the amp. I should be able to add a high to low off the rear mids since it runs off the radio. Do you know if there is a cross over on the mids themselves or is the signal from the radio filtering out the bass?

As for the AC.. Any suggestions were I could find one cheaper than the dealer? All Ac functions work ok its just the display.

Last but not least and I hope im not asking to many questions I just got the car and am trying to fix everything. My car is a 97 but has 2001 chrome rims needless to say my Tire pressure Indicators are not showing any tire pressure for any of the tires. Will that Tire Pressure reset trick with the magnet work in my case? I’m going to try it this weekend.. So All I have to do is buy a strong magnet. Go through the key sequence described and hold the magnet by the valve stem?

Ok I tried the Magnet trick to reset the Tire pressure indicator that did not work. I used a powerful magnet but its only about
1 1/2 inches long. Do I need a really big magnet to get this to work? Or am I out of luck since I changed the rims? They are stock 2001 or 2002 rims.

Its aluminum and there is a nut. It’s missing the top cap if that’s of any significance. Also another dumb question but Im starting the programing in the drivers side Front wheel. I take it thats what they mean by front left. I guess it depends on how you look at the car. I did set the computer to program mode but no horn sounded when i placed the magnet around the tire stem. Is that the sensor?

HI there,
Yes, that is your sensor. If you reference the diagram attached, this is what they actually look like.
I would ask that you check on the DIC and tell me if you have any codes for the RFA, which is the last module.
What do you have???
Yes, that is left front. And the caps do not make a difference.
Please let us know, c4c5:hb

Dam there was 27 codes in history. I cleard them lets see what happens as for the RFA I have the following codes U1096 H U1064H U1016 H and the only one that was current is C2120 H C
After I cleared all the codes I did get 10 PCm P1571 H show up again. It didnt have the C tag for current. C2120 Did not show up right away. Im sure it will soon though..

Ok I just drove the car after I cleared the codes. The following codes showed up again. 10 PCM P1571 H and RFA C2120 HC
No check engines light though?

Hi there,
First, your 1571 is normal in the 97 model year, due to programming within the PCM. As long as it is always history, you are fine, and disregard it.
As for your 2120, this is a general code for the tire pressure monitoring system malfunctioning.
If you cannot train the sensors, this will always set.
Please attempt with a stronger magnet, and let us know how you do, c4c5:hb

Thanks I'll do that. As for the magnet does it have to be a horseshoe looking type of magnet? and do I place it right above the Tire Stem or on the tire itself. Any Ideas were I can get one in Miami,Fl Thanks again.

Well, you could get a magnetic pick up tool, available at any autoparts store.
Hold the magnet right next to the valve stem, near the rim, and that should do it.
Let us know how you make out, c4c5:hb

On our car I found that it helped to move the magnet around a little bit. If you are using a "pencil shape" magnet, swirl it around the valve stem. With a different shaped magnet, move it from one side around to the other, keeping the magnet close to the valve stem.

Hope this helps!

Got another magnet and still not working. Could it be that the magnet is too strong? How long does it normaly take to program each tire? If the sensor was bad would I get a different error on the Computer?

c4c5Specialist,
Have you ever heard of this problem--my RF sensor does not work for the first 20 mins or so when I start the car up. I guess something has to warm up. During this time I get the XXX on the display, and sometimes a "Check Monitor System" msg. I do have aftermarket tires (Kumho's). After the tires are warm, it works fine.

Hi there, DM,
Yes, I have heard of this issue, and I do not belive that it is your tires. If it was, you would have this occuring on all 4 corners, not just one.
It sounds like you have a sticking sensor, which does happen from time to time.
I would replace the sensor, and reprogram accordingly.
Please keep us posted as to your progress.
