Duals down the right side or straight back?

How are you guys setting up your dual exhaust on the 80+ vettes. Do you run them down the passenger side then split them such as the Midamerica true duels or do you use the design similar to the older style true duals and have them go just under the frame.

Thanks
Mike

depends on use of a cat. if you have smog-cop issues, run them down the right side and through a dual in, dual out cat. this should get you past the inspection guys. if you can, run down each side. it will be more balanced from bank to bank, but the selling point is it's cheaper to go old school. you may want to install some heat shield material while you're at it.

Thanks, I have no smog issues here anymore. So straight back it is. What sort of heat shield are you guys using. I plan on insulating the hell out of the inside. Also, where is get close to the rear fibreglass spring what are you guys using there to protect it.

Thanks
Mike

i would cover the the floor pan on the driver's side with heat shield material. the passenger's side already has the metal heat shield on it. it is not necessary to shield the driver's side, just keeps tons of excess heat off your feet. i ran mine without the shielding for a couple months, it was Africa hot while sitting at a light with just 75*F ambient temps. as for the rear spring, muffler wrap on the spring and pipes near it should be enough to keep you safe. make sure the wrap you get does not damage fiberglass with the curing process. Dynomax used to sell a true dual kit for pretty cheap. just specify you have a pre '75 small block. they won't sell a kit for anything from '75 year to newer, goes against national smog laws. you can get 2.25" or 2.5" from the collectors back. if you're running nearly stock go for the 2.25", over 300hp i would get the 2.5" stuff. the smaller pipe helps torque. good luck, Brian.
