Dumb Question

Restoring the doors on my 65. There is a "caulking" that goes around most of the parts, the vapor barrier, and the inspection panels to keep them from rattling and for weather/wind proof ("wind proof"? it's a freaking convertible!!) So now that I have rebuilt the window regualtor and done the channels and such, I don't have a clue of what to go ask for at a parts store to do that sealing. Door caulking? Sealer? Monkey S_ _t? Also anyone have a good chrome platers in the Los Angeles area?

I've always called it "dum dum". It comes as strips wrapped in a kind of wax paper. ZIP Corvette has it.

If your not doing the factory correct thing.Then any autoparts store who sells autobody repair parts will have something for you.I have had a small box of a 3m product for years,Its called string caulk.you just pull out a strip stretch it a tad and place it on the car. I use it all the time installing stereo speakers and such.

Any body shop supply store will have 3M "Strip-Caulk"; that's as close as you'll come to the original material.

It is this stuff. Most auto parts stores will have it.

Also anyone have a good chrome platers in the Los Angeles area?

Where in Los Angeles, I had some parts done in the city of Orange, in Orange County Calif. The name of the place was "Orange County Plating". They re-chromed some parts for a non-Corvette car that I'am restoring. The parts came out fantastic and have retained that new chrome look for at least 4 years. They will tell you up front if it can be done and how much it will cost depending on what you want done. Here is there website.
