Dymag Problem

Hi,
I'm relatively new to the forum, I have been reading the forum off-n-on for a couple of years. I'm getting ready to pull my 88 Callaway out of storage, it's been in storage for about 8-years. I have already taken it to the shop and it's running good but the tires need replaced before it's road worthy.
My question is about the Dymags, a previous owner had stripped the exterior paint and left exposed metal. I was reading the Dymag restoration thread and would like to know if there is a quick fix I can do until I can get the Dymags fixed properly. The car is in PA and I need to get it to WA. I was thinking about cleaning them really well and spraying them with clearcoat until I get the car the WA. I don't have time to get them restored before I take the car to WA.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks
Steve

PS - I will be in PA the last two weeks of August. I'm going to try to make it down to Carlisle and stop by to visit with you guys.

Welcome back :m

I went back through some of the past Dymag threads and here is what really stood out in my mind as imperative :eek

Pete - Thanks :m
I had brought my inspector but caught her sleeping on the job ;)

**Two key points about the task at hand that I cannot stress enough -
  • Magnesium CAN be welded & repaired
  • Wheels need to be finished inside & out or they will try to revert back to their natural state :eek
...stay tuned for more on this :v

Also, I was totally amazed at how long I let my wheels sit - I know Surf had his back in a week or two...

Here is mine when I dropped them off...

...and here is my wheel inspector today - I am just waiting on my centercaps to be done for the wheels before we change the wheels :cool

Time flys! :eek

Don't know where the car is in PA, but the Wheel Collision Center, located in Bath, Pa, has done numerous wheels for me, including my Callaway over the years. They also did a set of Dymags for Chip Miller. They do great work. You can contact them at 610-837-8792.
Good luck and hope you can make Carlisle

Since it seems you are short on time and you will need rims someday during dymag restoration, why not buy any old used C4 set to put on now, then sell when your done.

Dymags

Thanks for your responses. I think I will try to find a set of used C-4 rims and send the Dymags out for restoration. I remember checking the rims prior to putting the car in storage; the paint isn't completely stripped off, only the visible parts. The rims are greatly oxidized, they are almost completely black. If I can't find any rims in the local area, I can always shop at Carlisle.

Thanks,
Steve
