My recently acquired 88 Callaway has silver Dymags that could use blasting and re-powder coating. Anyone have any experience with these services on your Dymags? The wheels don't appear to have any real damage, just some missing paint and a few gouges and nicks.

Although I have not had to refinish a set of Dymags, I have had work done to a set of Alumn wheels with great results by "Ye Ole Wheel Shop" 6363 Washington Blvd. Elkridge, MD 21075 1 (800) 526-8260. I recall a magnesium wheel present while I was at their shop.

Also saw this ad: "Wheel straigtening & Repair Alumn. & Magnesium. Rim & Wheel Works 285 Newtonville Ave. Newton , MA. 02460 (800) 261-0495 www.rimandwheelworks.com "

Also just down the road from the Callaway shops in CT : Precision Wheel svc. (800) fix bend, www.precisionwheelservice.com

Hope you are enjoying your *new* Callaway Corvette :) Please let us know how this wheel refinishing turns out.

90Callaway I know had his re-painted but I am not sure who he used - :m

If they are not too bad you really don't need to go the full blasting and powder coating route. I had Dave at The Final Finish repaint mine when he did the body.

Here is the basic process - If there is any curb rash, you can gently sand down any raised areas with fine sandpaper over a wood block. Then use a good quality body filler putty (two part) to fill the low spots. Sand it smooth and feather any chips in the finish. Then refinish the wheel with correct silver paint. Use a quality acrylic urethane BC/CC (Base Coat/Clear Coat) system with hardener. I don't know the exact color.

I pass this place on my way to work every day. Their building backs up to the MA Turnpike. I haven't used them for wheels yet though. Hopefully, I'll never need them!

I wonder if they have any experience with our specific wheels??

...Remember that red 90 with 3 smashed wheels that were "repairable" ;LOL Aero wonder if they really could have been fixed :confused

i had mine done

they had bad curb scrapes and gouges. dave @ final finish in branford ct did them. he does a lot of callaway's body work. they came out great and a reasonable $75 per rim in 1995. only bad thing is the original callaway yellow stickers on rims had to come off but i saved them. one word of caution, if dave himself does the work its exceptional. im not so sure of his younger employees.

Did any of these links or sources help out??? Let us know where & how (much) plz :m

The best source I have talked to so far is: http://www.wheelwizard.com/ They have estimated about $800 plus shipping and any tire work. (Note that they have a graphic image of a dymag on their homepage!) I am checking a few additional places. I think I may have a local source. Once I actually get them done I will give you an update.

i did mine in 96

dave at final finish did them. $75 each. they came out very nice.
mine had some good gouges from curbs.

I have not had the work done yet. I have decided to do some major work on the Callaway this winter and will have them done at that time. I'll let you know how it goes.

As I think I have said before, this car is pretty rough. I'm going to do mostly cosmetic work this winter. The car needs a new interior, new paint, new rear glass, the dymags refinished, and a few other minor things.

The car belonged to a drug dealer who was busted and sent to the big house. After that it belonged to the Minneapolis police department and was used as a D.A.R.E. vehicle, with full police regalia including a light bar. I'm sure every Minneapolis police officer checked out what the car could do. The car was wrecked at one point, and has had work done front and rear.

The car will never be a NCRS car but can be restored to a very nice high performance driver. I have several other vettes so I can take my time getting this one in shape. I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like the Callaway has some really interesting history - Yeah, I bet its "Top End" was never explored while "in custody" - Brings a whole different meaning to "DARE"

Hey, I dare ya to see how fast she can go ;)

Hey - I agree, sounds like she will be a nice high performance driver :upthumbs

Enjoy!!

I had looked at that car when I was shopping. If youve got the money to restore and mod it, you'll have a monster on your hands :bu Then your Z06 will be your slow car :L
