i have an early 93 ruby red--my question is about the automatic transmission--is it a 700r4 or a 4L60e? i had a late 93 before this one & the shift points seemed to be quite a bit different--is this normal ?
yes, there were a few changes in the '93 model year. One of them is the transmission. You probably have the 700R4 if the shift points are different, and you know your other '93 had the 4L60E.
PS: for those that don't know about the changes in '93...
the under hood emblem was swapped mid-year from the Bowling Green emblem to a Mobil 1 emblem.
The belt was chaned mid-year from the two sided ribbed belt, to the traditional one sided ribbed belt
The auto transmission went from the 700R4 to the 4L60E

There is also a difference underneath the rear bumper cover. Early '93 production had a black honeycomb material in that area, while later '93 production had a white foam material.
For what it's worth, my car was built within the first 2 weeks of Nov. '02 and it has the black honeycomb as well as the 700R4 transmission.

Not to forget the obvious I guess, but there is always the sequence number in the VIN if you are looking for where the car fell in the production line-up. Just a thought.

Well, according to the Black Book, there were 21,590 Corvettes produced for the '93 model year. So the closer you get to that number, the later in the production year it fell. Is that what you are referring to?
If it helps, my car was built mid-Nov. of '02 and has a sequence # just under 7,000.

For exact number cut-offs for the variations: I have never found any exact numbers. I am not even sure if GM knows for most of the changes, although, it would be in their advantage to know what transmission the car has.... maybe your dealer can tell you that info.
