Hi All, I have a 1982 Corvette. Is there an easy way to read Check Engine Error codes. Or is there a device that I could purchase where I could read the error codes. Does anyone have experience in reading error codes for a 1982 corette ?

Thanks, Tom

if you open the door to the ashtray and remove the tray under it you will find the connecter for the computer,
you will have to check to see which two terminals get hooked together to give you the codes.

if you search thru the old threads('search' at top of page)you should find a list of the codes and how to retrive them

good luck....bill......:w

ECM diagnostics with Paper Clip question

Hi All, I search old postings for reading ECM error codes as Bill had suggested. I found an easy approach using a paper clip on the A and B port of the connector. Then watching the error code light flash and count the flashes.

I removed the astray and saw there was a connector. My question is, looking down on the connector. Where is the A and B port of the connector. There are two rows of holes looking down on the connector.

What I understood was that the paper clip needed to go into holes A and B to complete the circuit.

Thanks, Tom

I believeits the upper left side of the connecter

Mine was lower left two pins. Maybe upside down

That's why I posted the link to the diagram. It shows the Key on the connector for reference.

Thanks guys for all your help. The picture really helped out.

From the picture view I located the pins which were on the bottom left of the connector.

The flashing code method worked great.

I needed to read the coded because I bought a Jet stage II prom. When I put the prom in over the weekend the Check Engine light came on. I reposition the connector after talking to the Jet Technical support. They thought I may have bent a pin but I didn't. I used the green plastic chip guide to position the chip. The same guide that the stock chip was in. Tonight I found the error was code 51. Five short flashes and one long flash. "Prom error" !

I am going to send the prom back and have Jet send me a another one.

I then placed the stock prom back in and the car works fine. Sometimes I wonder why I got a new prom. I guess I want to get as much power out of the 1982 as I can. Probably wishful thinking that the Jet prom would help to achieve that.

Thanks again guys. The paper clip trick worked great !!!
