Hello Forum

I have an 85 automatic. I have purchased a spare ecm and chip sort of as insurance if ever needed. The service numbers of both ecms are as they should be 1226870 . Correct I believe for my car, and application. Can anyone shed some light as to the remaining numeric information on the ecm? One has to be a serial number which I know should be different on both boxes. Does the entire lower line of numbers make up this serial number? And what are the 3 letters in the upper right of the sticker? The newly acquired ecm has HLH on the sticker and the one in my car has FTS in that location. Could this have to do with transmission, rear axle, or something else? And are these ecm,s in fact interchangeable? Thanks in advance for any information anyone may be able to supply....

Just replaced my ECM in my 1988. Do not know what these extra numbers mean. Mine was a different p/n, but sounds like the same type of markings whatever they mean. I would suggest installing it and making sure it works before you put it on the shelf as a backup. Easy on my 88 to install - remove passenger kick panel and two bolts drops down - disconnect battery as it is always recommended on electronics.

Just make sure the prom(chip) is for the same year car and same gear ratio. I bought a new chip for my 1990, they ran my vin and sent me a new standard chip. turns out they sent me a chip for a 1990 automatic with a gear ratio of 3.67 instead of the 2.73 I needed......turned out my old chip was still good...lol

take care and goodluck!
