2003 50th Annversary Red coupe, beautiful !
I've been looking at getting a C-4 driver to use and I called about a 91 with 65K. It's at a use car dealership across the river in NJ and owned by a women. I called and it's a cell phone # and she answers, I tell her i'm interested in the 91 coupe, can I see it? she says she's driving it right now and so I ask "So the milage is higher than advertised? well she says it's her car. I said is the price solid and she says Yeah and you better get here soon as a lot of peole are looking to buy. I said I'd like to take it to my corvette shop to be looked over and see what the overall condition is, she says no way, she doeasn't allow cars to be out of her pocession and I'd have to find a garage somewhere local to look the car over. . .? At this point I was a little surprised, and all I could ask her was, "Mamm, do you know what condition the economy is in and how many V8 corvettes are up for sale? She said do I want it or not?

Maybe I'm better off not looking across the river anymore?;shrug

Go else where.

The Joisey girl is about to get a lesson in economics. :L Considering the never been registered 2008 convertible vettboy just bought with 150 miles on it for under $43,000, I'd say it's a buyer's market right now.

Good luck with your search Killain! And we remember... we want pix!!

Sounds like a real attitude adjustment is in order on her part.
Don't know what the price was but this week I saw a 96 with 65k on it advertised for $13500.

No way in h-e-double toothpicks I’d buy from that individual.

There are MANY Corvettes out there right now to choose from!

how far and hw long were you asking her to let you take the car for.... i have always been funny about just letting someone take my car that i just met. im not sure about other states but in ny if you let someone take your car and they get in an accident guess who gets sued....

example.. car parked at a local body shop car is not owned by shop but by a friend of the owner with for sale sign in window, 2 kids stop to look at the car ..car is a 5.0 mustang.... kids take car for extensive joy ride and do not return within a reasonable time and wreck it and are charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, passenger suffers extensive injuries to his head and face requiring multiple surgeries... who paid... the owner of the car.

true story, handled the case and am very good friends with both the owner of the body shop and the owner of the car.

Well I'd planned on giving her a 1K check and my drivers license # along with a full tank of gas once I got back. The car would be covered under my insurance while I dorve it fifty miles to my corvette shop. If they turned it down i'd return it and get my check back? I'm 59 and have a perfect driving record.

Bad vibes from jump street. Go to a different street. I would walk/run. There are many pleasant and honest people to deal with. Who needs Joisey Goil?

thats seems like a pretty fair offer......

Okay, kind of going to look at things from a different perspective here. If some stranger came to me with the offer you made, I would quickly be seeing red flags concerning someone trying to scam me out of my car and run off with it for 1,000$...honestly I'd even question whether the check was any good or not. Without depositing the check long enough for it to clear, and being able to run your DL#, there's no way to know you're who you say you are. Now knowing you're a fellow CAC'er here do I believe you're honest about it, yes I do, but she doesn't know you from King Feetahd Gufmaston who's just sent her an email concerning the car and wanting her to hold a 10k check for him while he transfers funds from his bank in Nigeria. I don't know how far away from her you actually are, just putting myself in her shoes though if someone wanted to have a vehicle I was selling checked out, I'd have them choose a mechanic close to where I live and I'd meet you there with the car.

Just food for thought from a different perspective, best of luck to you finding the right vette for you...besides, no need to rush into buying anything, car shopping is FUN!!!

Absolutely NO WAY would I let ANYONE take ANY of my cars Anywhere! No valets, funeral attendants, etc. I dont even like my mechanic who I trust to work on the car to take them for test rides.

Abtually there was an article on how the Vette is currently among the best bang for the buck ecomomicly. Great mileage, prestige, etc. 90's cars in good shape will hold value well. Its the NEWER vettes that will be in less demand and where prices will fall dramaticly.

Her conditions seem reasonable. If you were buying my car I'd drive it myself or with you to the local shop of your choosing, but you couldn't take it or test drive it without me and rest assured I'd be armed as well for my safety. She just sounds street smart..."sumpdin ya gotta be in joisey":chuckle

.
Not only in the scenario you mentioned but if they have your keys in NYState its "implied consent". So if you lose them or leave them in the car and someone takes it... its NOT Theft!:W

exactly.... its a tough situation..... i myself HATE selling cars outright.... i would much rather trade just to avoid this situation... when i sold the 82 i had 3 "serious" buyers come to the house, one of which brought his "expert" with him who tried to pick little things apart and rattle off BS prices for things that were definetly going to have to be replaced if you were to do a restoration...... he made me a ridiculous offer and i told him no.. that night i e-mailed him the actual prices you could buy most of the things for without even bargin hunting and told him his buddy was n o "expert".. the next day he called me and made me a new offer and picked the car up that night... with cash! most of these "experts" are hardly that

*almost* without exception, trading a car in is the worst possible move.

Well I see your point, but I was going to ask if she had another way I could have the shop of my choice, whom is a really well known corvette restoration garage look at the car, maybe have my credit card or have her driver take the car over to my shop or something along those lines, but she hung up on me before I had a chance. I realize people need to be cautious, but I'm the one who is paying the 6590 that she's asking for the car. And I don't trust a local mechanic who I have no idea if he knows a thing about corvettes to look it over. And I'm not going to hand over the money blindly. I'm better off letting my mechanic look for a 89 to a 92 for me , one that he is able to find or hear about and look over !
