Howdy - So I've begun my first "real" upgrade and have replaced my stock carb and intake with the Edelbrock Performer EPS and the Thunder AVS carb. This is quite a project for a rookie like myself. So far, its all coming back together. Here is my current hold up:
Throttle cable doesn't fit on stud provided. I guess I could drill the existing throttle cable to make it fit but figured many people here have added this carb. What stud did you use if not the one provided? Or how did you get it hooked up. In giving back to the forum - For those that own an '80 and want to add the AVS carb you will need to buy a new bracket to hold the throttle cable as the original bracket that holds down the old Qjet doesn't work with the new carb. So you have lose the original bracke and buy an adjustable replacement. Also, carb studs are not provided with the carb so you need to buy those seperately. (You can't use the existing bolts as the rear ones go all the way through the carb body - way too long)
Second - I have an automatic. Nothing is supplied with the Thunder AVS carb to connect this cable. How/What do I need to attach this cable to the carb?
Hint #2 if you attempt this project: I was able to use the existing bracket that mounted to the stock intake to hold the transmission cable. I had to grind a little bit out of the middle in order to be able to bold it onto the new EPS intake manifold.
I've read many a thread that got me as far along into this project as I've gotten. Thanks for all who post - this is such a great forum for learning/sharing!
