As I am SLOWLY getting my engine back together, I had planned on using the Edelbrock Performer intake along with the Performer heads...but have measured the intake to be about 3.4" taller than stock.
Sooooo.....can the Performer intake be used wihtout using a drop base air afilter housing???....I would like to use the stock air filter housing.

Thanks,
LannyL81

I don't know if there are different model performer intakes, but when I bought my 'vette it had one installed. The stock carb and air cleaner are on it, so it should fit. Comparing the original GM intake and the Edelbrock, they look about the same size though.

There are only two "Performer" which fits under Corvette hoods and "Performer RPM" which does not.

Lanny,

I don't know this as fact but I have heard that the Performer 2101 will fit with the stock Air Cleaner. I guess performance wise its pretty much the same as a stock L81 manifold. I have a Weiand 8000 series on mine, it runs great but I did have to go with a drop base air cleaner.
Good Luck Tim

In making my earlier post about hood clearance, I assumed we were talking about small block V8s.

If we weren't and it's a Big-Block we talking about, no Edelbrock dual-plane manifold for a Big-Block will fit under a stock hood. The only Big-Block manifold which fits under a stock hood is the Torker 2 a single-plane, "low-rise" manifold.

Engine is the stock block, just bored and decked. I can not remember the intake manifold part number....it is the one without EGR so I think it is the 2101, but not sure. I measured the difference between it and the stock intake; measured between the bottom of the base and the top on the carb base...and that is where I got a 3/4 inch difference in height, with the Performer being taller.

The only reason I was going to change to the Performer was to match-up with the heads.

Lanny, I'm using a 2101 intake with 600cfm edle carb, a 1/4" spacer ontop of the carb for throttle linkage clearence with the stock air cleaner. I think there is 1" clearence left over between the hood and air cleaner. All this on 350 sbc.

Turns out that I have the 2701, not the 2101....what was I thinking....actually I was not thinking as the 2701 is for a square bore carb and I am using the stock QJet and need a spreadbore bolt pattern.

Argh......must have looked at the numbers without my glasses when I bought this....Argh.....

May be a bit diffrent clearances between years......

I have a couple Edlebrock parts under my hood with no issue.Performer carb and manifold both work with mine.I even had to custom make a flange that would accept the air cleaner properly that actually raises it a 1/2 inch or so extra...Its a K&N bottom and cleaner with a Edlebrock top cover.. The brass ring in the photo below, I just went out and took a couple photos for this.

A zip-lock bag with a wad of play-doh or even a wad of wet bread set on top of the air cleaner and gently bring down the hood, you will get a perfect look at your clearance.

Good luck,Chas

(Please forgive the dirt, I been busy!;LOL)

Very nice indeed. However I want to stay with the stock air cleaner to get as much cool air as possible. But as it turns out that I made a mistake when I bought the Edelbrok intake....got the 2701 for a square bore...when I actually need the 2101 so I can use my QJet.

Anyone want to buy a really nice 2701 intake?????????????
