Effect of salt air

I getting closer to retiring in a small Gulf coast town in Texas. I'm concerned about the effects of the salt air on my 62 and how best to care for it. I can do a climate controlled garage, but I still want to drive it, too. Just like a boat, I can wax, clean and protect the "upper" surfaces fairly easily. But, the undercarriage, etc. is another matter. Any readers out there live in Corpus Christi, Houston, or anywhere else on the Gulf Coast? Thoughts, advise?

others from THAT area will eventually chime in - but
Here on the MS Gulf Coast, I know that my 96 (which has always lived on the gulf coast) had lots of corrosion on the lug nuts when I finally got around to working on her. I have not dug any deeper or put her on a lift to see what the undercarriage looks like.

I do know that I can't drive the beach highways without having an engine compartment of sand by the time I get her home...

I bought a 62 a couple of years ago from a man in OHIO......the frame was just about gone.......unless you do a frame off restoration, just drive it a nd wash the sand off the underside once in a while...... the problem with washing it is the water stands in some areas and then reacts to the salty sand........ the only cure to this problem is to hot dip the entire frame in a corrosion restant paint or substance.....

but the frame is where you will have problems.....it's what you can't see that will become your nightmare

Galveston or within a mile of the beach is very salty. It'll rust anything.
In Houston, no problem.

My lots are about a block from the bay in Rockport. Pretty salty air, I'd say! My '62 has a solid frame, "fully" restored and painted/coated well, but from growing up in the Corpus Christi area, I just remember that the salt attacks "everything".
