has anyone used an electric fan from a Lincoln mark VIII? It seems to be quite a popular fan for quite a few cars. I know my nieghbor has one on his Chevelle, and I know they are popular for mustangs. The only draw back I can see is that they pull quite a few amps upon start. But they pull a hell of alot of cfm. Any thoughts?

I put a electric pusher fan in my car, I went to the local radiator shop and asked for a large very thin fan. They set me up it was not very expensive.

I put it in to keep the head pressure down on my AC since I stupidly did a R134a conversion, the fan only comes on with the AC. I does pull a great deal of power so I did put in a modern alternator.

Why do you need one? I don't like the thing, I don't like the slight buzzing and my hood doesn't open up all the way. If I ever get the chance I'll go back to R12 and ditch the fan.

We had years of overheating problems during CA and WA summer weather that we cured with a flex fan. 6 years now of running below 200. (195)
There is a louder noise, because it is moving so much air...I quickly grew accustomed to it because I felt good knowing it was moving plenty of air.

The large electric pusher fans are very noisy, a whole lot louder than a flex fan. I'd rather hear my cam and exhaust.

In my experience, electric fans suck (no pun intended) I have a flex fan and it is noisier than the stock unit but since I replaced my head gaskets, there is no overheating, even with the R-134a A/C running. :)

cheers

If you mount it on the front of the radiator you use a pusher, rear mounted suck (no pun intended). ;)

I need the pusher fan to cool my condenser the keep the head pressure down within the AC system, not my coolant temp. Keeping the head pressure in the AC system low will prolong the life of the AC system by not blowing out the seals. The only drawback is the AC gets so cold somtimes the system can freeze!

If you wire in a relay for the fan it will not have the high draw on fan start up.I did that with mine works great.
