Anyone here running an electric water pump?

I'm thinking it might help with the cooling, since it produces full flow, even at idle in traffic. Plus, it produces less drag on the engine, so it should be good for a few horses.

I came very close to using an electric pump on my street vette. Meziere makes a 55 gpm model now. At the last moment, i went with a Steward mech. hi flow pump. Im delighted with it...it really does move more water i can tell.

If you email me, ill send you some correspondence i had with Meziere concerning how long the seal is supposed to last as well as the bearings. They said it would be fine for the street., but i was leary.

Just my opinion ... I don't think those Meziere, Moroso, Weiand, CSI & similar block-mounted electric pumps can RELIABLY deliver the GPM needed for sustained, routine street driving. I have serious reservations of mean time between failure (MTBF) for their electric motors. Those electric pumps are designed for drag cars ... cars that have limited run time. Look at any half-azz (or top shelf) endurance or circle track race car ... I've seen quite a few ... none run electric pumps. ... yea, yea ... there's NEW stewart (inline electric) ... they're very rare & HUGE$ ... they might work on street ... they're so new I cannot offer opinion. If you want a nice pump, stick to mechanical. I have a Weiand Team G aluminum mechanical pump ... very nice. You won't go wrong with a good, new mechanical pump from any good maker ... aluminum or cast iron. Weiand, Edelbrock, Stewart, GMB (stewart), Moroso, Carter, Speed-Pro, GMC ... all very good.

Also, I haven't seen a mass-produced passenger vehicle that comes with an electric w pump ... though I believe production costs would not be prohibitive. I believe the warranty costs would be.

If you wanna get rid of alotta drag ... toss the fan clutch & go with an electric fan ... they've long proven to be reliable. Again, only my .02.
