Hi Guys,

Question: I'm noticing that if I watch the guage in my car when I first go to start it and drive it reads 14.3 volts, and as I drive a little (5-10 miles) with AC, Lights, and Radio, it starts to degrade. By the time I'm back in the driveway it might only read 13.3 volts.

Should I be concerned? I haven't been stranded YET.

Thanks,

David

There might be something going on with the regulator in the alternator. Maybe as it gets warmed up, the voltage drops. Find a place that checks the electrical system for free, Auto Zone or a Battery Warehouse or the like and get it checked, it might last for quite a while or might quit next week.

The output of the alternator will be slightly higher while driving, because of the engine RPM's. 14.3 sounds about right for cruising. I am not sure what mine is at idle with all the gadgets on. I will try to do some checking and get back to ya

The regulator should limit the output to about 14.3 volts no matter how high the RPM. It can however be lower. A reading of less than 12 volts means no output.
