I'm considering an electronic ignition conversion for my 66 big block roadster. I'm looking at the Lectric Limited system for $159. I like the idea of the Hall effect trigger. Anyone with experience with this one or others to suggest?

Took the one you can see here:

Price is the same....effect absolutely great. I had so many probs with the points....unstable idle as well as a rev limit around 3.8k. And the rest of the ignition system was new !

Now the engine revs up to 6k + easily.....and has a real stable idle. The more interesting as the 365horse solid lifter is known for having poor idle anyway....

I would name it one of the best investments done to the car. Some friends of mine did the swap as well...59 Buick, 60 Vette FI, and 63 Split FI....all are happy.

An aftermarket point replacement set will not change performance in the least, on the assumption your distributor is in good condition to start with.

If you have problems like Mikey1, this might be a good band-aid fix.

Martin:

My points would start to bounce @5500 RPM with standard Blue Streaks. Was advised to change to hi perf (high spring tension) points. I did so, and have had the '65 L76 to 6700RPM with no float. I won't wind it higher yet as the motor is still tight from a fresh rebuild.

PS: I agree with Vettehead. It sounds like Mikey has other problems if his rev limit was 3800. You MUST start out with a blueprinted distributor, whether or not you decide to go solid state. In my case, I rebuilt to a little closer than spec. regarding wobble, and installed standard points. The motor STILL was limited to 5500, until I changed out the points. I am confident that I can now rev this engine to the breaking point, before the distributor acts up.
