Was checking my AC Coressor, and locked the only keys I have in the car while it's running. Got in with a hanger years ago, but lost my touch. I have a "Slim Jim", but don't wanna mess anything up. Can anyone help, or direct me to a door lock schematic, so I'll know what I'm "feeling" for in the door? Car is an '86 Coupe. Thanks!

I have 86, door look is to bottom approx. 8in below door handle, should be able to catch acc.there with slimjim with no damage to door or anything else.

hope you can understand what i was trying to say.

Thanks.....I'll give it a try.....so 8" below doorhandle, and a straight pull up (slowly), right? Been trying with the hanger for about an hour and a half.....good news is, AC compressor is quiet now! Thanks......will check back!

If you still have the hood open just disco the battery and call someone!

Just changed door locks on both sides, about 2 weeks ago, real fun to change.

74 I am about to buy a 79, would you happen to know how i can tell if it has a L-48 or L-82, It was a option that year.

You have to look on the stamp pad and then look at the vin, I cant seem to find my Corvette black book. You might want to post in the C3 section. I am sure those guys know right where all that good stuff is.

I did they must go to bed early,You know C-3 group, need that sleep. ha,ha,ha

Oh yea.....are you referring to the inside handle, or outside? Thanks!

any luck yet, if not try going just passed the door handle to the rear with the slim jim,and try it there,it should be right there.

I had two of these, both L-82s. There was hood badging, and I can try to find my literature, if you need.

Thanks BigBlock74.....Didn't even think of that.....but something made me gently put the hood down, so it's off.

Thanks motorman.....no luck yet, but will keep trying.....any idea where I can find a schematic.....just wondering what I'm trying to catch. Messed up the doors on my Cavalier just yanking and pulling, so I'm using a bit more caution here. Thanks!

thanks but someone said the fifth character would tell me 8= L48 or 4= L82, but thanks any way.

Don't blame you it is not fun changing that stuff.I just went through that, It was a job.

Keys locked in '86 Coupe.

Okay, it's 1:23 am now.....been at it for about 6 hours, and the frustration is really mounting. My driver's side weatherstrip is history from trying to get in. If anyone has, or can direct me to a site that might have a schematic of what I should be reaching for the the slim jim, please let me know. This happend once with my first C4, and it took about an hour and a half, but I did get in. Starting to think smashing a window might be the only route at this point.....but again, I am quite frustrated.....maybe a fresh start tomorrow.

Thank you all for your help.....at least it's not running anymore. Appreciate any further help on this. Goodnight.

I'd Try.........

The police or a locksmith, gotta be cheaper than smashing a window.
