My 98 has started to knock. It used to knock only when the outside temp. was high but now knocks from time to time just about all summer. I've switched gas many times but to no avail.
What's the story?

HI there,
The story is the garbage gasoline that is being produced, causing carbon buildup problems.
That is the story, for there is nothing that can be done, except for adding a decarbonizing additive to your fuel. Or you can pay a dealership, to decarbonize your engine overnight.
Your call. I used BG products 44K for the initial decarbonize, and then MI3000 every six months.

I found teh 44K at CarQuest parts and its about $20. I suggest three ways of getting in it.
1/4 via the power brake vacuum line
1/4 via the PCV valve vacuum line
1/2 in 1/2 a tank of gas.
It seemed on my 98 this was the best way to clear out the buildup.
Are you getting any DTC codes like P-0332 or P-0327?
Dennis

Hi there,
DO NOT ADD 44K THROUGH THE PCV, OR ANY OTHER WAY.
This is not how the chemical works, nor will it have the same effect on the carbon buildup issue.
You add the entire can to the tank, and fill up. Once the tank is almost used up, then refill, and see how things go.
You can damage converters by doing this, and also coat the o2 sensors, and make them lazy.
I am sorry, but this is a necessity that it be used correctly for reliable results.
