Hey folks, I just bought some engine paint from Auto Zone for my upcoming engine spruce up. There were two different blues. One can was "Chevrolet Blue" and seemed rather dark and the other can was "General Motors Blue" which had a lighter tint. I bought the lighter tint blue as it looked more like what my engine color actually is.

Trying to keep this thing as close to original as I can is there an actual Chevrolet Corvette Blue for the 79 L-48 engines?? If so is it available from an auto parts store or do I have to get it from Mid-America, Ecklers, etc.........

Thanks.

i also got my paint at atuo zone, i got the general motors de 1608 i like it hope is original, looks to be, anyway iam happy with the way it turned out.

I got my engine paint from POR15STORE..........it is painted on with a paint brush....self leveling paint.......it would take a sand blaster to get it off......has been on for 2 years now.....and looks as fresh as it did the day I put it on. If oil gets on it, all you have to do is spray it off with water. And they have all different colors. I would NEVER USE anything else.

General motors blue is the right one.The "chevrolet Blue" is for early 6 cylinder engines. :)

Thanks all for your responses. I will use the "General Motors" blue as suggested by paintdaddy........... :beer

slyone, I dont have the time to get your suggested paint. It does sound like pretty good stuff. I have the top of the engine appart, ie manifold and valve covers off, and will be painting them tommorrow for re-install for the weekend. Next time I have a job that requires engine paint I'll try it! :w

I'm Not trying to be a smartazz ... just nosey I guess. Why are you going into a motor (intake manifold) having less than 30K miles; albeit an older motor? Leaks?JACK:gap

No problem Jack, the engine is leaking from the front and rear of the intake manifold and down the sides of the engine from the valve covers. So with the upcoming car show here in Charlotte I am removing the intake and valve covers, cleaning up the parts, repainting them to look original, and then reinstalling them with new GM original type parts. I plan on having this fine car there for show.

The engine/car is only 28,000 miles old but time, 25 years, has been the worst enemy in this case. Its just time to make it look good again and it couldnt hurt to replace the engine fluids while I am at it! :drink

I just took off my valve covers last week as the gaskets were leaking. I repainted the covers orange. I also adjusted the valves. Runs even better. Time dries up everything.
