I'm trying to figure out what pulley configuration will work with my modified '64 327. Originally 327/300, dressing up to be 327/365.

I want to use the proper HiPerf alt pulley & 8"balancer but I am installing Power steering. Here's what I think I need....

66/67 327/350 w/ps lower pulley, 63/65 HiPerf double groove water pump pulley.

Not sure if the 8" balancer changes the pulley alignment. If not, then I could use my original 300hp pulleys (I think). I already have the P/S lower pulley. Any recommendations?

I put all the pulleys I had together on the new 8" balancer, and nothing seems to line up.

I'm using the stock 300hp double groove lower pulley, the stock 300hp double groove water pump pulley, and an add-on P/S kit lower pulley.

The water pump and lower pulleys almost line up, but not quite.

The P/S pulley on the balancer is an entire belt width off from the P/S pump pulley (Balancer pulley is closer to the engine than the pump pulley). The P/S pump pulley seems to be awfully close to the front crossmember as well. I can't see how I would get the belt on it as it is.

Any clues would be welcome.

In general, the water pump and crank pulleys are a matched set and only vary based on whether you have a short or long water pump. I'm not sure if Corvette's had differences in one or the other due to certain configurations.

Is the crank pulley slightly forward of the water pump pulley? If so, maybe you don't have your balancer all the way on?

I have the L-76 which takes a different pulley then the L75. However, first I used the repro pullies, claimed to be an "Exact Match"..NOT... I was luckey enought to find and buy a matched set from a 63 L76...they fit correct and align perfect now...I compared by site, and the only thing I think that is different is the depth of the groove in the water pulley....:confused

This is a real pain.

Subfixer,
Pully alignment doesn't have to be exact - can work with some slight misalignment. That being said, you can always adjust by disassembling the waterpump and having the flange for the pulley moved in relation to the shaft. May even be able move the shaft in relation to the bearing. All you need is a press!

As a side note, I bought new aluminum pulleys and a water pump and I also got some spacers with this setup that go between the water pump pulley and the water pump. I didn't need them, but you can always space this pulley out if need be.

Doug, The water pump pulley set is a little forward of the crank pulleys. About 1/8".

I'm more concerned about the gross misalignment in the P/S pulleys.

I found some answers from the NCRS forum that say I should use the late 65 327/350hp w/ps, wo/AC, complete pulley setup. Since this is what GM used back then, I think I'll go that route.

Crank Pulley (deep dbl groove) 3858533
Water pump (deep dbl groove) 3770245
PS pump pulley (cast iron) 3834720
Alt pulley (thick deep groove) 3829387

I think I may be missing numbers for the additional crank PS pulley........

All but the cast iron PS pulley can be purchased from GM.
The cast iron PS pulley can be purchased at numberous vendors, but it's not cheap.

well, not exactly true on the C2s - SHP 327s (i.e. higher revving) get a deeper groove pulley than their 250 and 300 hp brothers due to the higher revs possible

subf - glad you "found" the info you were looking for, but it seems you might still benefit from a picture of my set up, I will try to snap one forthwith.

I just bought a big pile of pulleys. Let me know dia. and offset. Maybe I could help.

BTW I went through the same thing on my car. The original 365 pulleys were gone. I got a replacement big balancer and used 409 pulleys I got at a swap, which I have been told are "correct". In any case they have the deep wide grooves which I think are correct for the 365.

I do not have PS though. I did need to put 1 washers thickness under the WP pulley to make it perfect. Also note that the 365 should have the larger thick pulley on the alternator (I think).

John - I am not an expert in this but I got it to work and look right.

Jack, Thanks again for the link to NCRS (sorry I didn't give you credit earlier). A pic would certainly be worth a thousand words.
