i own a 1973 monte carlo. about 2 months ago, i blew the engine and was forced to replace it. i was able to find a friend of the family to give me a 327 from a corvette at no charge. the engine is in great condition and is 100% original. i need to find out the specs on the engine such as the year car it was from, the horsepower, torque, max rpm's etc. the engine # is 3970070...if anyone knows the info on this or knows where i can get it let me know asap. also, if you have any clue on how much this motor is worth let me know. thanks.

Shattered,

What are all of the numbers off the engine stamp pad? Its on the block, just in front of the right side cylinder head. Should be 2 sets of numbers and letters

Hi Shattered,

Welcome to the Corvette Action Center.

As Don said you need to get the stamped numbers off of the pad to positivly ID this engine. However I don't know of any 327 with a casting number even close to that. Are you sure it isn't 3970010? Sometimes those 1s can look like 7s on those rear castings. That is a very common 350 block casting number and comes in either 2 bolt or 4 bolt main bearing configurations. It was used across the Chevrolet line including Corvette where it came in everything from 165 horsepower '75-'77s to the 370 hp LT1.

i know that the engine is not a 350. i'm almost posotive that it is a 327 because of the bow-tie style spark plugs.

3970010

Is the only # close to what you have posted here and as Tom said, it's a 350. I'm confused as to what you mean by "bow tie style spark plugs"?
