I have an '86 and I need to get the engine and everything under the hood cleaned up again. A detail shop offers an engine steam clean service. Is there any problem with doing this? A couple of years ago when I was cleaning the engine I used a a spray on clener and then hosed it off with some pressure (not a pressure washer) and I caused a problem with the engine running properly and I had to take it to the shop. It sure would be nice to have them clean it up and then I can do the detailing.

Is steam clening OK?

Should be ok,if cleaning service is a good shop? But elbow grease is still the best,on a warm day

Your 86 has the L98 engine so you don't have to worry about the optispark. If the shop is reputable and the tech knows what he's doing and what needs to be shielded from water you should be ok.

I would never have an LTx engine steam cleaned.

Wow! That looks good, love seeing a well cared for engine compartment.
